Happy New Year & Opportunity Nation

Happy New Year friends!

What a year 2008 has been!

The start of 2008 was also the start of the long-awaited Opportunity Maine Program. We have spent much of this year raising awareness around this valuable Program and encouraging students to get enrolled.

Our idea is taking root at the national level, too, under the name Opportunity Nation. If you haven't already, please be sure to vote for this important idea and help move it to Obama's desk when he is inaugurated!

Vote Here!

We are also searching for 100 people who can chip in $10 (tax deductible!) to help us continue our important work of enrolling people in the OppME Program - and we're using Facebook to raise the money!

Can you pitch in today? (You don't even need to be a Facebook member)

  • Students: think of this as a long-term investment in your education that will pay countless dividends as you get reimbursed for your student loans after graduation.
  • Parents: consider the opportunities this Program creates for your children as well as other children throughout Maine.
  • Teachers, Coaches & Guidance Counselors: Make sure every student has an opportunity for a better life!

Donate Here!

We have some great accomplishments under our belt and we have some big prospects for the coming year; stay tuned for details!

Best wishes for a safe and Happy New Year; we wouldn't be here without you!

Regards,

Rob Brown, Executive Director and the entire Opportunity Maine board

An update & an invitation

Hello Richard,

I hope this email finds you well and enjoying the holiday season.  I want to give you a quick update and extend an invitation to join me in Washington when I take office next month.

November and December have been very busy, as we work to set up Congressional offices in Maine and Washington.  Over the last six weeks, I've had the opportunity to meet with individuals and groups here in Maine to hear about their concerns and hopes for the upcoming Congress.  I've also attended orientations on Capitol Hill and at the Kennedy School at Harvard where I've met new Members of Congress from around the country and had the opportunity to sit down with Congressional leadership.  We have some big challenges ahead of us, but I'm confident we can work together in a bipartisan fashion to tackle these problems.

I would like to extend to you an official invitation to Washington, DC to celebrate the start of the 111th Congress on January 6.  I am opening up our office on Capitol Hill so everyone can come together and watch as the new Congress is sworn in.  We would love to have you and your family there, to welcome in the new Congress, see our new office and meet the people who will be part of our Congressional staff.

Our open house will be from 10 to 3 on January 6th. The office will be located at 1037 Longworth House Office Building in Washington and we will provide a selection of food and drinks (including lots of good Maine treats.)  Please contact Erin at erin@pingreeforcongress.com if you have any questions about how to get there, suggestions on what to serve, or to simply RSVP.

Happy Holidays, and hope to see you soon!

All the best,

Chellie

P.S.    We are also in the process of setting up our Maine office at 57 Exchange Street, Suite 302 in Portland.  I know not everyone can make the trip to Washington so we'll be planning an open house there early in the New Year--I'll be sure to let you know about it.
